Opposition Parties Obstruct NA Meeting Over Dismissal Issue

Kathmandu: Today’s meeting of the Federal Parliament could not enter the agenda due to the protest of opposition parties. Soon after the National Assembly meeting began, lawmakers of the opposition parties protested by standing up from their respective seats.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Dr. Beduram Bhusal of CPN (Unified Socialist) stated that the government should provide an explanation for the dismissal of Kul Man Ghising from his position as the Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority. “The dismissal is a Cabinet decision. As per Article 76, the Prime Minister should be accountable to the federal parliament. So the Prime Minister should respond to the House,” he argued.

NA Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal acknowledged the attention drawn to the issue and urged lawmakers not to obstruct today’s business. He emphasized the necessity of passing the bills brought to replace ordinances soon.

Similarly, Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party leader at NA, Krishna Prasad Sitaula, requested the opposition parties to assist in running the meeting, highlighting that the obstruction would delay the passage of the replacement bills. Sitaula reminded the assembly of the constitutional provision requiring replacement bills to be passed within 60 days of the approval of ordinances.

The NA meeting was eventually postponed for an hour.
