Orientation on Chinese Language Promotes Tourism: Minister Pande

Kathmandu: Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pande, has stated that orientation on the Chinese language would significantly contribute to promoting tourism in Nepal. Minister Pande made these remarks while inaugurating the seventh batch of orientation on the Chinese language, a program jointly organized by the Nepal Tourism Board and the Chinese Embassy in Nepal.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Pande emphasized that the knowledge of the Chinese language not only strengthens Nepal-China relations but also positively impacts the tourism sector. He pointed out that proficiency in the language builds knowledge and serves as a medium for understanding civilization, history, and philosophy. He further suggested that individuals who learn the Chinese language can serve as cultural envoys, thereby fostering stronger ties between the two nations.

Additionally, Minister Pande highlighted that gaining skills as a Chinese language translator could lead to secure employment opportunities. The event also saw the participation of Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Chen Song, who noted that the orientation was held in celebration of the 75th anniversary of Nepal-China diplomatic relations. Ambassador Song remarked that this was his third time attending the inauguration of such a program since he took office in Nepal. He underscored the importance of communication in one’s native language for Chinese tourists, as it enhances the quality of tourism services.

Ambassador Song also mentioned that Chinese tourists are keen on learning about local culture and language, and thus, the orientation on the Chinese language plays a pivotal role in promoting cultural and tourism sectors in Nepal. Officiating Chief Executive Officer at NTB, Hikmat Singh Air, expressed optimism that the training would further bolster Nepal-China relations.

Since 2016, the program has trained 240 tourism entrepreneurs and professionals in the Chinese language. This initiative aligns with the agreement made during Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s visit to China.
