Kathmandu: The House of Representatives (HoR) has taken action by forming a seven-member parliamentary special committee to investigate the alleged wrongdoings during the drafting of the report on the Federal Civil Service Bill, 2080 BS. HoR Speaker Devraj Ghimire announced the formation of this committee during today’s HoR meeting, established in accordance with HoR Regulations.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the committee will be led by Nepali Congress lawmaker Jivan Pariyar. It includes members from various political parties: Nepali Congress lawmaker Sushila Thing; CPN (UML) lawmakers Narayan Prasad Acharya and Ishwari Gharti; CPN (Maoist Centre) lawmaker Madhav Sapkota; Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Ganesh Parajuli; and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) lawmaker Roshan Karki.
The committee’s primary task is to investigate the theoretical agreements, decisions, and electronic records related to the HoR Committee on State Affairs and Good Governance Committee, as well as the contradictory report concerning the civil servants’ cooling-off period. The special committee has been assigned to identify the reasons behind the contradictory report’s drafting, which contradicts the core spirit of the bill approved by the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee of the HoR.
Furthermore, the special committee is tasked with identifying the officials responsible for the alleged wrongdoing and determining whether they should face legal action for their role in preparing the contradictory report. The committee is also expected to provide recommendations to prevent such errors and ensure precautions in the future.
The committee has been given a 21-day deadline to submit its report.
