Kailali: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the country’s development. PM Oli made this statement while inaugurating the irrigation system and power house, marking the completion of the second phase of the Ranijamara Kulariya Irrigation Project in the eastern area of Kailali.
According to National News Agency Nepal, PM Oli emphasized that the current government, which consists of two major parties contributing to national change, is working towards stabilizing the country. He asserted the government’s dedication to bring stability, development, good governance, and to control corruption in the country until the next election.
The inauguration of the Ranijamara Kulariya Irrigation Project signifies the government’s intention to accelerate development initiatives, with PM Oli expressing a commitment to complete the project’s third phase. He highlighted the expansion from traditional irrigation methods practiced for over 120 years to modern systems, attributing this success to local participation and government coordination, marking a significant achievement for rural agriculture development.
PM Oli further mentioned that a recent cabinet meeting decided to secure a loan from the World Bank to advance the project’s third phase. Additionally, he shared plans to install 500 dip borings to address water scarcity issues in Madhes and initiatives to promote fishery and construct water recharge ponds in the Chure region.
The Prime Minister also noted the government’s focus on completing vital projects, including the Sunkoshi Marin Diversion, Bheri Babai Irrigation Project, and Tammor Diversion.
Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka, highlighted the financial benefits of the power house constructed within the irrigation project. Similarly, Chief Minister of Sudurpaschim Province, Kamal Bahadur Shah, remarked that the irrigation project has laid a foundation for national development.
The project, which began in the fiscal year 2067/68 BS, completed its first phase in 2074/75 BS and the second phase in 2080/91 BS. As of 16 July 2025, Rs 20 billion 585.6 million had been spent, achieving 75 percent physical progress according to the updated master plan.
The project, funded jointly by the World Bank and Nepal government, now provides irrigation facilities to 14,300 hectares of land across its first and second phases. The power house in Janaki Rural Municipality-9, Kantase generates 4.71 Megawatts of power.
A 14.65-km main canal has been constructed towards the Lamki section of the project, with plans to irrigate an additional 6,000 hectares if further canal sections are built. Upon completion of the third phase, the project aims to provide irrigation to a total of 38,300 hectares, as informed by Project Office chief Prem Ghimire.
