Pokhara: The Pokhara Metropolitan City has initiated a campaign to remove various structures, including workshops and garages, located along the main roads. The metropolitan authorities have begun preparations to clear these establishments, particularly workshops and scrap collection centres, which are situated on highways and major roads within the city.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the Metropolitan City has issued a notice granting a 35-day period for the removal of workshops located on the right side of the main road from Kotre to Setipul in the Pokhara section of the Prithvi Highway. The notice also applies to areas from Chhorepatan to Prithvi Chowk on the Siddhartha Highway and from Jirokimi to Phedi on the Pokhara Baglung Highway. The city administration has expressed concerns that these establishments, including scrap collection centres, car washes, and grill industries, contribute to traffic congestion and detract from the city’s visual appeal.
Metropolitan Mayor Dhanraj Acharya emphasized that these industries need to be relocated elsewhere to maintain environmental cleanliness within the metropolitan area. Additionally, the Metropolitan City has urged hardware shops, depots, and other businesses operating in designated areas not to place construction materials, signboards, and other items on the roadside.
Mayor Acharya further stated that any non-compliance with the metropolis’ directives and the continued operation of such businesses or storage of materials in designated areas will be addressed according to the prevailing law. The city has also appealed to residents for their support in this initiative to remove obstructions from highways and main road areas.
