Pokhrel Advocates for Rapid Economic Development Policy to Address National Challenges

Kathmandu: General Secretary of CPN (UML) Shankar Pokhrel has emphasized the necessity for the country to adopt a policy of rapid economic development to tackle the pressing economic and social challenges. Speaking at the 12th Representatives Council Meeting of the General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (GEFONT), Pokhrel highlighted that such a policy is crucial for addressing the nation’s socioeconomic issues in a strategic manner.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Pokhrel pointed out the discrepancy between the country’s economic growth and social development in recent years. He underscored the importance of a robust workforce to strengthen the nation, suggesting that a strong labor force is vital for national progress.

During the event, the UML general secretary also defended the party’s decision to eliminate the 70-year age limit and the two-term provision for UML leadership positions. Additionally, he argued that former President Bidya Devi Bhandari should maintain a dignified status rather than re-entering politics.
