President Paudel Unveils National Land Cover Map of Nepal


Kathmandu: President Ramchandra Paudel has unveiled the ‘National Land Cover Map 2020/2022’ at the President House, Shital Niwas here today.



According to National News Agency Nepal, the land cover map was published by the Forest Research and Training Centre under the Ministry of Forests and Environment. It was handed over to the President by the Centre’s director, Dr. Rajendra KC.



During the unveiling, President Paudel emphasized that the forest cover depicted in the map should be maintained in reality as it appears on paper. He highlighted the importance of implementing measures to protect forests from deforestation and to generate revenue from forest resources.



The land cover map indicates that the forest area in Nepal constitutes 46.08 percent of the country’s total land. In Bagmati Province, the forest area is recorded at 58.62 percent.
