Rastriya Swatantra Party Unveils Candidate Selection Procedure for Rupandehi-3 By-Election

Kathmandu: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has unveiled the procedure for the selection of its candidate to stand in the House of Representatives by-election. The selection of candidates shall be based on leadership potential, political proximity, inclusiveness, and the votes received in the internal primary elections.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the announcement was made during a press conference held at the party’s central office in Kathmandu. Bipin Acharya, the party’s Deputy General Secretary, stated that the selection process for the upcoming by-election in Rupandehi-3 will be guided by the newly introduced procedure.

Acharya emphasized that Rupandehi serves as the starting point for the party’s new candidate selection approach. He explained that the procedure aims to identify candidates actively involved in the party’s activities, ranging from office bearers to regular members, who possess the capability to contribute to the nation and its citizens.

Party spokesperson Manish Jha further clarified that the acceptability, personality, and competency of candidates will remain key considerations. The RSP has been internally selecting candidates through a primary election method, which will now be refined with a new methodology. Jha detailed that the selection criteria will allocate weightage as follows: 25% for leadership, 20% for political proximity, 5% for inclusion, and 50% for primary election results.

The RSP is set to announce the list of candidates within a week.
