Kathmandu: Acting chairperson of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Dol Prasad (DP) Aryal, and the party Chief Whip, Santosh Pariyar, met with Speaker Devraj Ghimire at his official residence in Baluwatar today. Shekhar Adhikari, the Speaker’s Press Expert, stated that during the meeting, Speaker Ghimire urged the RSP to act responsibly and cease obstructing parliamentary proceedings.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Speaker Ghimire expressed concern over the opposition’s actions, which have stalled parliamentary activity for two weeks. He emphasized the need for extensive discussions on the budget and highlighted the negative message that the prolonged obstruction sends to the public. The Speaker acknowledged the seriousness of the issues raised by the opposition but insisted that it was time to move forward to prevent further delays.
The Speaker stressed the importance of adhering to constitutional boundaries, noting that the National Assembly had directed the passage of the Appropriation Bill by the House of Representatives by June 19. He urged the RSP leaders to understand the constitutional constraints and adapt their approach while offering to facilitate dialogue with the government to address their concerns.
The RSP leaders maintained that the demands raised by the opposition were legitimate concerns of the people. Acting Chairperson Aryal conveyed that the RSP had resorted to obstruction due to the government’s lack of seriousness in addressing their demands. He assured that the party was committed to engaging in discussions and dialogues to find a resolution to the ongoing issues.
