Panchkhal: The Supreme Court (SC) has issued an order to close the brick kilns operating in Panchkhal municipality. The apex court has mandated this action due to the significant impacts these kilns have on the environment and public health.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the locals filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court on 30 December 2019. The petition listed Panchkhal Municipality, the Ministry of Forest and Environment, the Ministry of Education, and the Department of Archaeology as defendants. This legal action underscored the community’s concern regarding the adverse effects of the brick kilns.
Currently, there are eight brick kilns in operation within Panchkhal. In response to the court’s decision, Panchkhal Municipality has stated its commitment to promoting industries, including brick kilns, in a more sustainable manner. The municipality plans to implement an environmental policy aimed at regulating and reforming industrial activities to mitigate their environmental impact.
