Kathmandu: The Supreme Court (SC) has issued a show-cause notice to the government in response to a writ filed against the Inquiry Commission concerning incidents that occurred on September 8-9. The court has demanded a written reply from the government regarding the matter.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the decision was made by a division bench comprising Officiating Chief Justice Hari Prasad Phuyal and Judge Abdul Ajiz Musalman. The verdict was delivered on Monday, following a petition that raised questions about the Commission’s impartiality.
The writ petition was filed against Commission Chair Gauri Bahadur Karki and members Bigyan Raj Sharma and Bishweshwar Prasad Bhandari. It also named the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers as defendants. The Commission in question was formed on September 21.
The writ, submitted by Bipin Dhakal, expressed concerns over the public opinions voiced by the Commission’s members prior to the initiation of the investigation, questioning the neutrality and impartiality of the Commission’s proceedings.
