Kathmandu: Speaker Devraj Ghimire has emphasized the necessity of a critical review of the current electoral systems to address challenges in making governance more effective and citizen-focused.
According to National News Agency Nepal, while unveiling the book “Electoral Systems: A Comparative Study” authored by constitutional expert and senior advocate Dr. Chandrakanta Gyawali, Speaker Ghimire highlighted the importance of broader discussions on governance and electoral system challenges. He questioned whether the issues stem from the existing electoral systems, the electoral code of conduct, or the political parties’ use of these systems, advocating for a comprehensive review of electoral processes and systems.
He further stated the need to explore ways to ensure that each election is conducted fairly and transparently, with appropriate participation from all stakeholders. This would create an environment where elected representatives can perform in a stable and result-oriented manner. The book, published by Pairavi Book House, serves as a basis for such discussions.
