Special Economic Zone Rental Rates Slashed to Rs 5 Per Month


Kathmandu: The government of Nepal has announced significant changes to its economic policies, including the decision to eliminate the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Operational Standards and Procedures, 2071 BS. Education Minister Mahabir Pun revealed that the Cabinet meeting held today has agreed to decrease the monthly rental rate for SEZs from Rs 20 per square meter to Rs 5.



According to National News Agency Nepal, the Cabinet meeting also resolved to accept financial aid from the European Union amounting to 23.58 million Euros aimed at the ‘Green and Reliable Energy for Economic Prosperity in Nepal’ project. Additionally, the government has granted the Electricity Regulatory Commission membership in the ‘South Asia for Infrastructure Regulation’.



The Cabinet has further endorsed the alignment and enhancement of positions within certain offices and the augmentation of the current sanctioned strength of Nepal Police. To implement these changes, the formation of an organization and management survey committee has been approved. Attention was also given to the treatment and relief efforts for those injured in the Gen-Z movement of September 8 and 9. The government will deploy 10 volunteers, in addition to the joint secretary and deputy secretary, at the help desk, compensating them with a lunch allowance of Rs 15,000 per month over a span of four months.



In another decision, Deputy Inspector General of Police Ishwar Karki has been promoted to Additional Inspector General of Police. The Cabinet has also recommended to the President the issuance of the ‘Land Ordinance, Ninth Amendment 2022’. Furthermore, the government has sanctioned 37 projects at the authorized level for integrated land-perimeter planning of protected areas and biological routes under the Ministry of Forest and Environment for the fiscal year 2082/83 BS.
