Statute Convention to Discuss Removal of Age Limit for UML Leadership

Lalitpur: The CPN (UML) General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel has announced that a proposal to abolish the 70-year age limit for party leadership will be presented at the upcoming statute convention. This significant meeting is scheduled to occur in Lalitpur from September 5-7.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Pokhrel made this announcement during a meeting of the party’s central departments at the party’s central office on Sunday. He emphasized that the decision, initially discussed in the party’s central committee meeting, would be forwarded to the statute convention as it is the committee’s duty and responsibility to address such matters. This proposal comes amidst various remarks by UML leaders regarding certain provisions of the party statute.

The central committee meeting, which took place in Sauraha, Chitwan, in November 2021, had already suggested amendments to some of the party statute provisions, Pokhrel noted. He also mentioned that legal and structural reforms have been implemented following the formation of the current government, which consists of an alliance between the Nepali Congress and UML.
