Kathmandu: Unification has been announced today among various leftist parties, including the CPN (Maoist Centre) and the CPN (Unified Socialist). At a special ceremony held at local Bhrikuti Mandap, the announcement brought together ten leftist forces under the new banner of the ‘Nepali Communist Party’.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the unity declaration was attended by prominent leaders such as Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, coordinator of the Maoist Centre, and Madhav Kumar Nepal, chairman of the Unified Socialist. Senior leaders including Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Bamdev Gautam, Mahendra Ray Yadav, and Chiran Pun were also present at the gathering, marking a significant moment in Nepal’s political landscape.
The guiding principle of the newly unified party is ‘Marxism-Leninism’, with a programme focused on ‘scientific socialism with Nepali characteristics’. The party’s election symbol, the ‘Five-pointed Star’, was unveiled during the declaration event. Pramesh Hamal, a senior leader of the Unified Socialist and member of the Unity Coordination Committee, highlighted the necessity of this unification for achieving the goals of the socialist revolution through good governance, social justice, and economic transformation.
The immediate strategy of the party is to protect the achievements of the capitalist people’s democratic revolution, safeguard national sovereignty, and promote socio-economic prosperity and transformation. The unified parties have agreed to hold a national unity convention within the next six months.
The formation of the central committee will be based on mutual agreement, integrating former central committees of the unifying parties. The structure will include positions such as coordinator and joint-coordinator at various levels, including provincial, district, municipality, and ward levels. All decisions regarding representation, organisation, and operational structures will be made through mutual consensus, adhering to the principle of democratic centralism and collective leadership.
