Dhangadi: A campaign to plant 32,000 tree saplings in 20,000 hectares of land has kicked off today in a bid to prevent riverbank erosion. The plantation began on the bank of Mohana River.
According to National News Agency Nepal, tree saplings of various species are set to be planted along the riverbank within the area of Dilashaini Shiva Mandir Community Forest at wards number 3 and 13 of Dhangadi Sub-Metropolitan City. The Nature Nexus Nepal is leading the initiative in partnership with the Division Forest Office, Kailali, as confirmed by Division Forest Officer Krishna Dutta Bhatta.
The current condition of the riverbank area within the community forest is barren and highly susceptible to erosion. Officer Bhatta highlighted that the plantation drive aims to restore greenery in the barren land and curb riverbank washout, thereby contributing to environmental balance.
Dilashaini Community Forest’s Chairperson, Krishna Singh Aire, announced the plan to plant trees to mitigate the impacts of Mohana River flooding.
Nature Nexus Nepal’s Director Birendra Bista expressed confidence that the afforestation campaign is expected to aid not only in environmental conservation but also in raising awareness about it. He emphasized that tree plantation is essential to protect biodiversity and is a reliable method to minimize the adverse impacts of climate change.
