Lalitpur: The central committee of the CPN (UML) is set to convene on Monday morning for a crucial meeting at the party headquarters in Chyasal, Lalitpur. Scheduled for 11:00 am, the meeting will focus on several significant issues, including proposed amendments to the party’s statute, an update on organizational work, and preparations for the upcoming statute convention.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the Chief of the UML’s Publicity Department, Rajendra Gautam, stated that the meeting will deliberate on a proposal to revise the party’s statute. This proposal, which has already received endorsement from previous Secretariat and Politburo meetings, includes the removal of the 70-year-old age limit for the Party Chairperson and the elimination of the two-term limit for executive positions.
The proposed amendments also suggest the establishment of a three-tier structure comprising the standing committee, politburo, and central committee. Currently, the UML central committee consists of 357 members.
This meeting is considered critical as the party is contemplating major changes to its statute, particularly concerning age limits and term durations. Additionally, the entry of former President Bidya Bhandari into the UML has sparked mixed reactions within the party, with some members welcoming her while others are skeptical about renewing her membership. Notably, Bhandari met with UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli at the party headquarters today, adding another layer of interest to the upcoming discussions.
