Lalitpur: CPN UML Chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former President Bidya Devi Bhandari held a meeting at the UML’s central office. The meeting took place on the eve of the party’s central committee meeting.
According to National News Agency Nepal, former President Bhandari interacted with journalists after the meeting, stating that the discussion focused on contemporary issues of national politics. She emphasized that their talks were strictly political and advised that additional information would be communicated through the party’s official channels.
During her interaction, Bhandari confirmed that she had renewed her party membership. This meeting marked her first visit to the UML’s central office since stepping down as the country’s Head of State. She was welcomed by UML Vice-President Surendra Pandey and Secretary of the party’s central office, Dr. Bhisma Adhikari.
Bhandari, who previously served as Vice-Chairperson of UML, has announced her return to politics. This announcement has sparked significant discussion within the party, with mixed reactions emerging. Some members support her return, while a majority of politburo members expressed opposition during a recent meeting, suggesting that a former President should not re-enter active politics.
