Bangkok: Nepal has been defeated by Hong Kong in the match played today under the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifiers. Hong Kong secured victory by 7 wickets in the match held at the Asian Institute of Technology Ground in Bangkok, Thailand.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Nepal set a target of 30 runs for victory after the match was reduced to 5 overs each due to rain. Hong Kong achieved the target in 4.3 overs with the loss of 3 wickets. Shanjin Shahzad contributed an unbeaten 15 runs for Hong Kong, while Mariko Hill added 11 runs to the scoreboard. On the bowling side, Kabita Kunwar from Nepal took two wickets.
Earlier in the match, Nepal was put into bat first after losing the toss and managed to score 29 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in the allotted five overs. Samjhana Khadka was the top scorer for Nepal with 10 runs, followed by Captain Indu Verma with 9 runs. Rubina Chhetri, Pooja Mahato, and Kavita Kunwar added 4, 3, and 2 runs respectively. Hong Kong’s Alison Siu took 3 wickets, playing a crucial role in limiting Nepal’s score.
The tournament sees participation from several teams including hosts Thailand, Bhutan, Kuwait, Qatar, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Bahrain, Nepal, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
