Kathmandu: Deputy General Secretary of CPN (Maoist Centre), Shakti Bahadur Basnet, has voiced his concerns over the current budget, claiming it does not favor peasants. During a program organized at Sambad Dabali, Basnet argued that the budget document failed to address the needs and concerns of farmers. As a former Home Minister, he expressed that his party will continue to fulfill its responsibility while remaining in opposition.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Basnet emphasized the significance of a recent two-point agreement, describing it as a testament to the party’s responsible behavior. He warned that if the agreement is not implemented within 30 days, the party is prepared to launch street protests. Despite this, Basnet remains hopeful that a high-level probe committee will be established to address the issues.
Basnet drew a parallel between the farmers’ movement and the people’s revolution initiated in 2052BS, suggesting that the movement could evolve to align with changing social values and needs.
In contrast, Minister for Water Supply, Pradip Yadav, asserted that the budget is comprehensive, addressing all sectors and classes. He defended the budget during the first federal council of the Janata Samajbadi Party, stating that rumors of the budget favoring specific areas are unfounded. Yadav highlighted that the budget focuses on essential sectors such as drinking water, irrigation, health, education, and infrastructure, with aims of economic reform, employment generation, and social justice.
