Panchthar: Most of the roads in Panchthar, including Mechi highway, Pushpa Lal highway, and Tamor corridor, have been obstructed due to flooding following continuous rainfall since Saturday night. Vehicular movement along Mechi highway has halted after a flood damaged the diversion at Hewa stream, reported Police Inspector Rupesh Tamang from the District Police Office, Panchthar.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the Hewa rivulet, which lies at the border of Phidim municipality and Hilihang rural municipality, had its bailey bridge washed away by a flood on September 28, 2024. Vehicles had been using a temporary diversion until the recent flooding rendered it impassable. Similarly, the Tamor corridor road has been obstructed by the floods, particularly at the rivulet located between Tumbewa rural municipality of Panchthar and Chaubise rural municipality of Dhankuta, where the absence of bridges poses a significant challenge.
The flooding has also affected the Mewa rivulet, where a diversion at Dobhane of Yangbarak rural municipality was swept away. Additionally, a landslide has blocked vehicular movement at Yangbarak-3. Police Inspector Tamang shared that these disruptions have severely impacted transportation across the region.
Furthermore, the Bhedetar Rabi Ranke road section has faced obstructions due to landslides at Magarbhir of Phalgunanda rural municipality-5 and Rabi bazaar of Miklajung rural municipality-4. The local authorities are assessing the situation, but the resumption of vehicular movement remains uncertain as efforts to clear the roads are underway.
