Uttarkashi: Five Nepali individuals from Bardiya district remain unaccounted for following the flash floods that struck Dharali village in Uttarkashi district, located in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. The missing individuals include Narendra Khadka, his wife Sandhya, and their 18-month-old son Roman, all from Madhuban Municipality-5 in Bardiya district, as well as Amrita Pariyar and Subas BK from the same area.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Chitra Paoudel, a local resident of Madhuban Municipality-5, reported that the missing individuals had sought refuge in a tent when the flash floods occurred around 9:00 am on Wednesday. The Khadka family and their fellow residents were in Uttarakhand for employment purposes.
Ward Chairman of Madhuban Municipality-5, Dilip Gurung, confirmed receiving information about the five missing persons due to the flash floods. Gurung also noted that five others sustained injuries, with three having returned home post-treatment, while two continue to receive medical care.
Efforts to locate the missing individuals are ongoing. The Embassy of Nepal in New Delhi, via a press statement, reiterated that the status of the missing Nepalis remains uncertain. The Uttarakhand Police reported that 372 individuals were rescued alive, and two bodies were recovered, with no Nepalis listed among them.
The Embassy confirmed that five Nepalis are still unaccounted for following the flash floods at Bagoda in Gaudal district, Uttarakhand. Although Ward Chairman Gurung mentioned five individuals were injured, the Embassy reported four, with three having returned home after treatment at a local health facility.
The Embassy emphasized that coordination with government officials and other stakeholders is underway to facilitate the search and rescue operations for the missing individuals, as well as to provide necessary treatment and assistance to the injured.
