Constitution Amendment to be Advanced, Says Minister Sudi

Kathmandu: Leader of Janata Samajwadi Party and Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens, Nawal Kishor Sah Sudi, has announced that the current government will advance the processes for constitution amendment based on its needs. The amendment will be pursued according to the aspirations and needs of all classes, regions, and communities, as stated by Minister Sah in an interview with RSS correspondent Sushil Darnal.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Sudi emphasized that the demand for constitution amendment is widespread, encompassing all classes and ethnic groups, not just a single political party. He asserted that the government’s clear stance supports the need for an amendment, expressing hope that it will advance the agenda promptly. Minister Sudi has consistently advocated for amendments to address the aspirations of the populace.

In discussing the Ministry of Women, Children, and Senior Citizens’ achievements over the past year, Minister Sudi highlighted the ministry’s focus on accessible, quality, and reliable service delivery, aligning with the government’s policies and programs. Notable progress has been made in juvenile reform centers, the Social Welfare Council, and the National Child Rights Council. The ministry has addressed issues concerning people with disabilities, sexual minorities, law formation, and various national and international agendas requiring coordination and facilitation.

Minister Sudi acknowledged societal and cultural transformation as significant challenges in building a civilized society. He called for shared efforts among all three tiers of government and development partners to foster a society based on women empowerment, entrepreneurship development, and equality, respecting the identity of children, senior citizens, disabled persons, and gender and sexual minorities.

Regarding the reform and maintenance of children’s homes, Minister Sudi mentioned the completion of maintenance and repair work at four children’s homes in Bhaktapur, Morang, Kaski, and Banke. The government plans to operate these homes through UCEP Nepal in the current fiscal year. Additionally, the construction of a children’s home in Dhakaltar, Tanahun, is nearing completion following a multi-year tender announcement.

The Minister also highlighted the streamlined process for free air rescue of pregnant women from remote districts. Essential documents include a photocopy of the citizen certificate, a referral letter from a local health institution, and a local level recommendation. Services are provided via ambulance and helicopter as needed.

Minister Sudi reported that foreign aid amounting to Rs 61.97 billion was approved by the Social Welfare Council, facilitating work through various organizations. The performance of social organizations has become increasingly transparent. Nonetheless, the challenge of ensuring transparency in social organizations’ activities persists, as noted by the Minister.
