Kathmandu: President Ramchandra Paudel has stated that delays in the legislative process by the parliament pose significant obstacles to achieving national goals. He emphasized the need for timely enactment of necessary acts and laws to prevent hindrances in reaching national aspirations.
According to National News Agency Nepal, during a meeting with journalists from the Journalists Society for Parliamentary Affairs (JSPA) Nepal at the Office of the President, President Paudel expressed his opinion that fostering discussion, consensus, and collaboration would enhance the effectiveness of parliamentary activities. He highlighted that such efforts could make parliamentary proceedings more people-oriented, thereby instilling public trust and preventing deadlock situations.
President Paudel stressed the importance of unity among all parties in supporting the democratic system, noting that democratic practices have been limited in Nepal. He pointed out that parliament, within a democratic governance framework, serves as the platform for voicing public concerns and enacting necessary legislation.
The President underscored the significant role of media in enhancing transparency and accountability in the legislative process. He expressed confidence that media professionals covering parliamentary affairs would support and provide critical insights to ensure laws are enacted in the public’s interest. This, he noted, would aid in addressing contemporary issues and improving the effectiveness and accountability of parliamentary practices through robust parliamentary and committee actions.
