Kathmandu: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel has shared that the government is making necessary preparation from its end for conducting the elections on the announced date. In his address to the inaugural session of the ‘Gorkhapatra Discourse’ hosted by the Gorkhapatra Corporation today, he stressed the need to make the House of Representatives (HoR) elections slated for March 5, 2026, a festival.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Kharel, also the government’s spokesperson, stated, “The government is doing its groundwork to enable an environment for successfully holding the election. The country has stepped into the election bid. With this, the election will be turned into a festival.” He further informed that the government has arranged resources and human capital for the election. Additionally, the Election Commission has also ramped up its preparatory actions. Almost all political parties have dedicated their activities to the elections.
The government, founded on the base of the Gen Z movement, is actively carrying out its mandate, including checking corruption, maintaining good governance, and conducting the elections. Minister Kharel highlighted that more than 30 corruption cases have reached the court in the last three months, marking an end to cases being influenced or pressured. “We have helped the anti-graft agencies move ahead in an independent manner,” he shared.
Minister Kharel also expressed the government’s commitment to adopting the conclusions received from the Gorkhapatra Discourse. He remarked that this discourse would play an important role in moving the country towards progress and economic prosperity in the context of reconstruction and development after the Gen Z movement. He emphasized the role of media in nation-building, stating that it not only disseminates information and educates but also creates discourse and provides training for development.
Furthermore, journalists and employees of the state-run Gorkhapatra Corporation are now affiliated with the Social Security Fund. On the occasion, Minister Kharel distributed the SSF membership identity cards to the Gorkhapatra staff, expressing contentment that his decision to include state-run media in the Social Security Fund was promptly implemented. The Corporation will enroll 180 employees and journalists in social security.
Minister Kharel also announced that the long-pending Organisation and Management Survey Report has been approved. He expressed confidence that Gorkhapatra would now become more professional and competitive in the Nepali mass media landscape. He urged Gorkhapatra to advance on the digital highway, emphasizing the need for visibility on mobile and digital platforms.
