Govt. Prioritizes Dalit Community Issues, Says Minister Chaurasiya

Kathmandu: Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ajay Kumar Chaurasiya emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing issues related to the Dalit community. He highlighted the importance of effectively implementing laws to eliminate caste-based discrimination and untouchability, underscoring the government’s legal and policy initiatives aimed at eradicating these societal issues.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Chaurasiya made these remarks during the ‘Justice Summit 2025,’ an event organized by the Dalit Lives Matter Global Alliance and Global Legal Defense Fund. At the summit, Santosh Pariyar, a member of the House of Representatives, noted that while the Constitution enshrines the rights of the Dalit community, the actual implementation remains weak.

Lawmaker Sita Mijar called for special programs targeting the Dalit community at federal, provincial, and local levels. Meanwhile, Pradeep Pariyar, Founder and Chair of Dalit Lives Matter Global Alliance, committed to fostering meaningful dialogue and creative initiatives to combat structural discrimination, injustice, and violence against Dalits and marginalized communities.

The summit also featured presentations on topics such as constitution, federalism, inclusion, Dalit women and justice, and a front beyond caste. Legal experts, political party leaders, and civil society representatives commented on these papers, calling for all state mechanisms to take serious and responsible actions to end caste discrimination.
