Kathmandu: Chief Justice Prakashman Singh Raut has announced significant progress in the adjudication process of the Supreme Court, stating that the institution has recently made remarkable advancements. He made these remarks during a program held in celebration of the 73rd Law Day-2082.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Chief Justice Raut outlined ambitious goals, including reducing the number of cases pending for over five years to zero by mid-July 2026 and eliminating those pending for over eight years by the coming mid-July. He noted that there has been a reduction in old cases over the past three years, and the Supreme Court has successfully finalized various cases within one-and-a-half years.
Chief Justice Raut emphasized the importance of effective adjudication through the implementation of the fifth five-year strategic plan. He highlighted the aim to ensure citizens’ access to justice, enhance public trust in the judiciary, and expand the use of technology within the judicial system. He also mentioned that efforts toward judicial reform are gaining momentum, and there is an optimistic outlook among the workforce in the judicial sector.
The Chief Justice also reminded attendees that Law Day is a commemoration of the practical enforcement of the rule of law, independent judiciary, separation of power, and checks and balances. He extended his best wishes to all for success in establishing the rule of law.
Law Day is observed annually on Baisakh 26, marking the establishment of the Pradhan Nyayalaya, Chief Court, on Baisakh 26, 2009.
