Kathmandu: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has announced a strategy to monitor, investigate, and take action against suspicious financial transactions, aiming to remove Nepal from the Financial Action Task Force’s (FATF) ‘grey list.’ This initiative is part of the monetary policy for the fiscal year 2082/83 (2025-26), which outlines a comprehensive plan to address money laundering concerns.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the policy emphasizes the need for effective investigation, prosecution, and actions to expedite Nepal’s removal from the grey list, in line with the action plan. Coordination among relevant bodies will be prioritized to ensure the completion of tasks outlined in this plan, aiming to lift Nepal from FATF’s rigorous surveillance.
The monetary policy further specifies that surveillance, research, and actions will be intensified to ensure the full implementation of the national strategy and action plan associated with the central bank. This includes implementing priority actions and suggestions for improvement as highlighted in Nepal’s third phase mutual evaluation report by the Asia-Pacific Group (APG).
Additionally, the policy outlines plans to automate the financial intelligence unit within the central bank to enhance the transmission of financial information to relevant bodies, thereby improving the efficiency and effectiveness of investigations.
