No Possibility for Change in Nepali Congress Parliamentary Leadership: Koirala

Biratnagar: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has reiterated that the current coalition government, consisting of major political parties NC and CPN (UML) along with several smaller parties, will remain in power until the next scheduled election in 2084 BS.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Dr. Koirala, speaking to the media at Biratnagar Airport, emphasized the necessity for the government to focus on corruption control and to assure citizens about the presence of good governance. He remarked that it is common for political figures to engage with leaders from different parties, referencing his recent interactions with former President Bidya Devi Bhandari and former Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Centre) leader Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’.

Dr. Koirala highlighted the importance of integrity in politics and noted that while the Constitution does not bar individuals who have held the positions of President or Vice President from re-entering active politics, he personally believes they should refrain from doing so. He also stressed the significance of effectively implementing the seven-point agreement between NC and UML that was established during the formation of the current government.

In response to inquiries from journalists, Dr. Koirala confirmed, “Presently, there is no possibility of a change in the Nepali Congress parliamentary party leadership.”
