One Dies in Police Firing During Anti-Smuggling Operation


Rajgir: A person died in a police firing aimed at curbing smuggling activities in a border area last night. The deceased has been identified as Lalu Yadav, a 36-year-old resident of Kamalpur in Rajgad rural municipality-2.



According to National News Agency Nepal, the incident occurred during a search operation conducted by the police following a tipoff about illegal importation and hoarding of alcohol. The operation escalated into a confrontation with local residents, leading to a clash. Deputy Superintendent of Police, Jitendra Kumar Basnet, stated that the police were compelled to open fire in self-defense after being surrounded and pelted with stones by the locals.



Yadav sustained injuries to his legs during the altercation and succumbed to his injuries while being transported to Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital in Rajbiraj.



During the operation, authorities confiscated 80 cartons of alcohol, featuring various brands, from the Nepal-India border. This incident follows the arrest of two individuals for heroin possession in Chhinnamasta rural municipality-1, just four days prior.
