Sudurpaschim Province Chief Minister Secures Vote of Confidence from Assembly


Kathmandu: Chief Minister of Sudurpaschim Province, Kamal Bahadur Shah, has obtained the vote of confidence from the Province Assembly on Thursday.



According to National News Agency Nepal, Chief Minister Shah received a majority of votes in a proposal tabled at the Province Assembly. Province Assembly Speaker Bhim Bahadur Bhandari announced that the proposal gained 30 votes, which constituted a complete majority based on the members’ presence at the meeting. Fifteen Province Assembly members voted against the Chief Minister’s proposal for the confidence motion.



A total of 46 Province Assembly members, including the Speaker, were present at the meeting. Support for Chief Minister Shah came from 18 members of the Nepali Congress, 11 from the CPN (UML), and one from the Nagarik Unmukti Party. However, six members of the Nagarik Unmukti Party were absent from the meeting.



Members of other political parties, including the CPN (Maoist Centre), CPN (Unified Socialist), RPP, and independents, voted against the Chief Minister’s proposal. In the 53-member Province Assembly, Dirgha Bahadur Sodari of the CPN (Unified Socialist) is currently suspended on charges of corruption.
