Texas State Legislature Passes Resolution on Buddha Day Celebrations


Kathmandu: The Texas Legislature of the United States of America on Thursday endorsed a resolution motion on the celebration of Buddha Day on May 15 each year. The document cites that Nepal serves as the birthplace of Gautam Buddha and it was endorsed unanimously. Texas House of Representatives Speaker Dustin Burrows presented the proposal in the State Assembly meeting.



According to National News Agency Nepal, representatives from the Nepali community and Vikkhus from over 60 countries, including Nepal, Vietnam, Colombia, and Myanmar, were present to witness the endorsement of the resolution motion. Nepali diaspora here have expressed commitments over the House decision to celebrate the Buddha Day.



However, the Texas parliament has so far no representative from the Nepali origin community. The document was the concern of the Nepali community, said Nepali Society Texas Chair Rajendra Wagle.
