Sagarmatha Sambaad: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli Highlights Global Challenges at Opening Session

Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli delivered an Inaugural Address at the Opening Session of the Sagarmatha Sambaad, a global dialogue initiative launched in the federal capital. In his speech, he emphasized the interconnectedness of today’s world and the need for principled engagement to tackle urgent global challenges.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Prime Minister Oli emphasized that the Sagarmatha Sambaad was created as a platform for honest dialogue, shared wisdom, and collective action. He noted that the initiative is named after Sagarmatha, the highest point on Earth, symbolizing the ambition for the dialogue to reach high moral clarity and intellectual courage.

Prime Minister Oli highlighted the pressing challenges facing the world, including the fragile recovery from the pandemic, the accelerating climate crisis, and the growing inequalities within and across borders. He stressed the importance of dialogue in addressing these issues, drawing on Nepal’s tradition of contemplation and respect for wisdom.

The Prime Minister further underscored Nepal’s historical role as a land of peace and harmony, referencing its connection to Lord Buddha and the sages who have meditated in the region. He described the Sagarmatha Sambaad as a revival of ancient traditions of dialogue and truth-seeking, aiming to bring together diverse voices in a spirit of humility and empathy.

The inaugural theme of the Sagarmatha Sambaad, “Climate Change, Mountains, and the Future of Humanity,” reflects the immediate relevance of these issues to Nepal as a Himalayan nation. Prime Minister Oli called for global recognition of the vital role mountains play in sustaining life, urging protection for these “ancient guardians” essential to both local and global ecosystems.

In closing, Prime Minister Oli delivered a clear message from the summit of Sagarmatha, stressing the necessity of protecting mountains as part of a broader commitment to safeguarding the planet and its future.
