Rukum purba: Two children died and two others from the same family in Rukum Purba district fell ill after consuming a curry made of wild mushrooms. The incident has raised concerns over the safety of foraging for wild food without proper knowledge.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the District Police Office in Rukum Purba confirmed the deaths of three-year-old Yojan BK and six-year-old Bhagya Rekha BK from Serabang in Bhume Rural Municipality-5. Yojan passed away on Tuesday noon while Bhagya Rekha died later that night while undergoing treatment at Rapti Academy of Health Sciences in Dang district.
In addition, Ram Kumari Sunar, 35, and her nine-year-old daughter Ayusha BK are in critical condition after consuming the toxic mushroom. The family collected the wild mushrooms from a nearby jungle on July 18. They sought medical attention at the District Hospital in Rukum Purba only on July 21 after their condition worsened.
The District Hospital referred them to the Dang-based Academy on July 22, where the two children succumbed to their conditions. The surviving family members have been transferred to Bheri Hospital in Nepalgunj for further treatment.
