Dhangadhi: The CPN (UML) Parliamentary Party, Sudurpaschim Province Assembly, has issued a directive for its members to vote in support of Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah from the Nepali Congress. This whip is in anticipation of a crucial province assembly meeting scheduled for Thursday, where CM Shah will present a proposal seeking a vote of confidence.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Chakra Bahadur Malla, the Chief Whip of the CPN (UML), announced that a parliamentary party meeting convened at the Parliamentary Party Office in Dhangadhi concluded with the decision. Members have been instructed to ensure their presence at the upcoming assembly meeting and to vote in favor of the trust motion. This move comes as CM Shah seeks a vote of confidence following the withdrawal of support by the Nagarik Unmukti Party on July 4.
Faced with the constitutional requirement to secure a vote of confidence within 30 days, CM Shah must obtain the assembly’s backing by August 2. Despite the Nagarik Unmukti Party’s withdrawal, the Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) hold a majority in the province assembly, which is expected to bolster CM Shah’s position.
The Nagarik Unmukti Party’s decision to withdraw support was made after its Minister, Rameshwor Chaudhary, was relieved from his post. The Sudurpaschim Province Assembly, comprising 53 members, includes 18 from the NC, 11 from the CPN (UML), 11 from CPN (Maoist Centre), seven from Nagarik Unmukti Party, four from CPN (Unified Socialist-one suspended), one from Rastriya Prajatantra Party, and one independent member.
