Kathmandu: Nepali Congress (NC) President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba appreciated the party’s general secretary Gagan Thapa for his leadership in managing the library. At a programme organized by the NC Library and Party Department of Study Resource Centre to honor the contributors of the library’s establishment, Deuba emphasized that NC has better principles than other competitive parties and the library’s role would be instrumental in expanding public understanding of the party.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Deuba remarked that the library is rich with priceless books and resources. He noted that friends could utilize the library to counter the narrative that NC leaders and cadres do not read. With the library in place, party members would be able to understand the party’s principles and ideals better and transfer this knowledge to others. Deuba expressed confidence that the oldest party could secure a majority if they engage all friends, including those from the media.
The former Prime Minister also noted that the library’s operation and management would incentivize the party and its cadres. Vice-President Dhanraj Gurung highlighted that study is key to expanding knowledge, warning that the absence of study could lead to increased conflict, dispute, and destruction.
NC general secretary Thapa mentioned that the party’s departments have changed their working style recently. He emphasized that the central office should become a center for brainstorming, linking knowledge production to tangible results, and addressing pressing questions and challenges. Thapa shared that a fund of Rs 10 million has been instituted to construct and run the library.
Assistant general secretaries Mahalaxmi Upadhyay (Dina) and Bhishma Raj Angdambe, treasurer Umesh Shrestha, and central member and center coordinator Ajaya Babu Shivakoti also spoke at the event. During the occasion, Deuba launched a book authored by Lok Bahadur Tandon, Chairperson of Green City Hospital, and honored contributors like Pratap Paudel, Yubaraj Pandey, Shanker Tiwari, Manojmani Acharya, Raghab Acharya, and Dil Bahadur Maharjan for their support in establishing the party library.
