Underground Irrigation Project’s Working Area Expanded to Bara and Parsa

Chitwan: The working area of the Underground Irrigation Project has been expanded. As informed, the project, which initially focused on Chitwan, Makwanpur, and Nawalparasi (Bardghat Suista East), has now extended its reach to the districts of Bara and Parsa in the Terai region.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the expansion of the operational area was prompted by a deepening water crisis in the Terai region. The irrigation project chief, Biswobandhu KC, stated that the government has taken these measures to address the pressing water scarcity issues.

In the current fiscal year, the project has set an ambitious target to complete 24 underground irrigation projects. In the original three districts, 12 tube wells will be installed at a cost of Rs. 190 million, while an additional 12 tube wells are planned for the newly included districts of Bara and Parsa. The demand for tube wells in these districts has reached a total of 54, indicating a significant requirement for irrigation infrastructure to support local agriculture and water supply needs.
