Bagmati Province Government Launches Plan to Conserve Arable Land

Nuwakot: Chief Minister of Bagmati Province, Bahadur Singh Lama (Tamang), has announced the provincial government’s initiative to protect agricultural land from erosion caused by rivers and streams. This plan aims to prevent farmers from becoming landless due to the degradation of their lands.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the Chief Minister shared these plans during a programme in Panchakanya Rural Municipality-4, Nuwakot district. The initiative will focus on recovering and rehabilitating lands that have become uncultivable due to erosion by rivers and rivulets.

A budget of Rs 300 million has been allocated for the project, which will be introduced as a model scheme in selected districts of Bagmati Province this year. The Chief Minister emphasized that the project will offer relief to farmers affected by erosion from the Tandi and Likhu rivulets in Nuwakot, aiming to protect and restore the damaged lands.

The programme, beginning as a model in Nuwakot, targets the conservation of 28,000 ropanis of land affected by the Likhu and Tandi rivulets. Chief Minister Tamang expressed confidence that the recovery of lands along rivers and streams will make them suitable for cultivation. He also noted that the provision of facilities such as irrigation will play a crucial role in boosting agricultural production on these rehabilitated lands.
