487 Cooperatives Found Inoperative in Koshi Province


Koshi province: As many as 487 cooperatives have been found inoperative in Koshi Province. Most of these cooperatives under the jurisdiction of the province government are from Jhapa, with 131 inoperative cooperatives, followed by Morang with 67, Sunsari with 62, Ilam with 47, and both Udayapur and Tehrathum with 26 each.



According to National News Agency Nepal, the list of idle cooperatives extends further. Solukhumbu has 12 such institutions, while Okhaldhunga and Panchthar have 21 each, Sankhuwasabha has 13, and Khotang, Bhojpur, and Dhankuta have 17 each. Additionally, Taplejung accounts for 10 inoperative cooperatives.



The list was made public in line with the Province Cooperatives Act, 2076, and Cooperative Operation, Monitoring and Auditing Standard, 2078. This initiative aims to update the number of cooperatives and begin the process of canceling the registration of those that are idle, as stated by the Koshi Province Cooperative Registrar and Training Office.



Once the cooperatives are found with no property and liability, they would be forwarded with the cancellation process, explained monitoring and auditing officer, Nagendra Parajuli. Currently, there are a total of 1,075 cooperatives under the jurisdiction of Koshi Province.
