Kathmandu: The National Assembly (NA) members have drawn the government’s attention towards various contemporary issues including natural disasters, inflation, and corruption, among others. Speaking during the Special Hour of the NA’s meeting today, Nepali Congress’s (NC) Kiranbabu Shrestha urged the government to address the anomalies that have surfaced along with the development of communication and technology. He insisted on making proper use of these advancements rather than misusing them to eliminate prevailing issues in the communication sector.
According to National News Agency Nepal, despite political changes in the country, Shrestha highlighted that the condition of people had not improved. He called for unity among the political parties to bring about positive changes in the lives of people and ensure economic prosperity in the country.
Jagat Prasad Sharma emphasized the importance of strengthening federalism, arguing that it is a foundation for building socialism rather than division. Meanwhile, CPN (Unified Socialist)’s Rajendra Laxmi Gaire reported that 122 people had died and 22 were missing due to natural disasters in the last four months, stressing the need for effective disaster preparedness. Gaire demanded immediate relief for those affected by landslides, floods, and earthquakes.
NC’s Padam Bahadur Pariyar urged political parties and leadership that fought for political change to be sincere in ensuring the rule of law in the country, lamenting the lack of energy and enthusiasm to address contemporary issues. In a similar vein, CPN (Maoist Centre)’s Shree Krishna Adhikari called for prompt government action to resume the landslide-obstructed Araniko Highway, while cautioning against a potential price hike ahead of upcoming festivals.
Adhikari appealed to the government to ensure the operation of disrupted roads, curb inflation and black marketeering, and facilitate the return of citizens through the southern border during the festival season. CPN (UML)’s Rukmini Koirala noted growing public dissatisfaction with the government due to its failure to meet their aspirations. Koirala emphasized the need to empower local governments and address fundamental issues such as education reform, job creation, quality healthcare services, commercialization of agriculture, and industrialization.
