Kathmandu: The Department of Postal Services has issued a postage stamp featuring the image of Sardar Bhim Bahadur Pande. Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, marked the first cancellation on the new stamp during a program held in the city. The Minister, also the government spokesperson, emphasized the role of postage stamps in preserving history and promoting national and international recognition for the country’s significant figures.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Pande was a distinguished diplomat, bureaucrat, and author, descending from Kaji Kalu Pande. Notably, he was the first Nepali to acquire a master’s degree in commerce from India. The newly released stamp commemorates his pivotal contributions to Nepal’s administration, diplomacy, literature, and social service. The Minister remarked that this initiative aims to inspire younger generations to honor the accomplishments of their predecessors.
The Department of Postal Services has been actively issuing stamps that celebrate individuals who have made notable contributions to the nation in various fields, alongside highlighting indigenous crops, culture, traditions, and daily life. Himalaya Pande, Pande’s middle son, attended the event with family members, expressing pride and joy over the recognition, which he deemed a tribute to their entire family.
Radhika Aryal, Secretary at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, acknowledged the inspirational impact of Pande’s life and achievements. Meanwhile, Manamaya Pangeni Bhattarai, Director General of the Department, reiterated that the stamp issuance was part of the Department’s initiative to uphold the country’s historical legacy.
