Itahari: The District Administration Office, Sunsari has instituted a curfew in Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City effective immediately and lasting until further notice. This action comes in response to escalating tensions and aims to restore order in the area.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the curfew was enacted under Clause 6(A) of the Local Administration Act, 2028. Chief District Officer of Sunsari, Dharmendra Kumar Mishra, confirmed the decision, emphasizing its necessity due to recent unrest. The curfew covers a wide area, stretching from the Itahari-based Nepal Army barrack to Paruhang Chowk in the north, Milan Chowk to Jute Development in the east, the office of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority up to the bus park area in the south, and from Kalanki Mode to Janatabasti in the west.

The restrictions prohibit gatherings, rallies, meetings, demonstrations, and protests within the designated zones. The decision follows a clash between the police and the Gen Z generation, who initiated protests against corruption in the Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City. The demonstrations, which began at 11:00 am, quickly escalated into violence, prompting the imposition of the curfew in sensitive areas to prevent further disturbances.
