Kathmandu: A meeting of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee was adjourned halfway due to demonstrations by the ‘Gen Z’ group. The meeting had to be postponed after Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, Defence Minister Manbir Rai, and Home Secretary Gokarnamani Duwadi left the session to discuss the latest developments related to the demonstrations.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the committee members were deliberating on the proposed amendments to the Bill to Revise and Integrate the Laws on the Nepal Police. Lawmakers had registered proposals for the amendment. Following the departure of the ministers and the secretary, Rastriya Prajatantra Party lawmaker Buddhiman Tamang proposed postponement, stating it would be inappropriate to proceed without government representatives.
Committee President Ishwori Devi Neupane informed the members that the Home Minister had briefly exited with prior permission and suggested the meeting continue. However, lawmakers Ramhari Khatiwada and Gyanendra Shahi also supported the postponement of the meeting in the absence of key officials. Finally, acknowledging the general sentiment of the committee, President Neupane announced the adjournment of the meeting.
A total of 52 amendment proposals concerning 648 points were registered regarding the Bill, with 22 related to the preliminary section.
