LAKSHMIPUR, A court here today sentenced 11 men to life
term imprisonment for murdering a man during robbery in Sadar Upazila in
2005.
District and Session Judge Md Rahibul Islam handed down the verdict to
Hossain Patwari, Md Kowser, Abul Hossain, Choto Kamal, Belal Hossain, Anowar
Hossain, Ripon Hossain, Kabir Hossain, Ismail Hossain, Alamgir Hossain and
Abul kalam Bahar.
The court also fined each of the convicts Taka 10,000. If the convicts failed
to pay the amount they will serve one year in jail more.
According to the prosecution story, on February 16 in 2005 the convicted
dacoits shoot dead one Mokbul Ahmed during robbery at his house at Dakhin
Gangashibpur village in the Upazila. Following the murder and robbery
victim’s daughter filed a case with Sadar Model Thana accusing a few unnamed
people. On December 29 in 2005 police pressed the charge sheet accusing 14
people.
Testifying witnesses and evidences the court gave the order in absence of
most of the convicts. The court also acquitted two persons by the order.
Another one died during hearing in the case, said Public Prosecutor advocate
Jasim Uddin.
