Japan-Supported Classroom Building Inaugurated at Shree Chandrawati Secondary School in Udayapur

Udayapur: A newly constructed classroom building, funded by the Government of Japan, has been officially handed over to Shree Chandrawati Secondary School (SCSS) located in Lekhani Rural Municipality, Udayapur District. The handover ceremony was attended by Mr. Maeda Toru, Ambassador of Japan to Nepal.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the construction project was supported by a grant of USD 65,298 (approximately NPR 8.5 million) under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) initiative by the Government of Japan. The Embassy of Japan in Kathmandu issued a press release detailing the event and the support provided.

During the ceremony, Ambassador Maeda congratulated those involved in the project and stressed its impact on enhancing the educational environment for students and teachers at SCSS. Founded in 1960, SCSS serves around 330 students and has been a crucial educational institution in the region. The previous school facilities were over 35 years old, lacked earthquake resistance, and had insufficient classrooms and sanitation facilities.

The newly constructed facilities consist of two one-story buildings, featuring a total of five classrooms and well-equipped toilets for both girls and boys. The Embassy of Japan expressed hope that these buildings would serve as a lasting symbol of the friendship between Japan and Nepal, and contribute to quality education and better living conditions in the country.

The project was implemented by the NPO Kids of Kathmandu, an organization established in 2015 dedicated to improving educational environments in Nepal. The GGP program, initiated to benefit grassroots communities through socio-economic development projects, has seen over 200 projects executed in Nepal since 1991.
