Kathmandu: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has emphasized the need to expand the anti-drugs campaign nationwide to build a drug-free society. At the launching ceremony of the anti-drug campaign carried out by the Valley Police Office in Kathmandu today, Home Minister Lekhak highlighted that drugs are emerging as a threat to individuals, families, and society at large. He noted that drug abuse has transcended being merely a governmental or police matter and has become a concern for the entire society.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Home Minister Lekhak stressed the necessity for the three levels of government to collaboratively conduct a campaign to curb drug abuse. He pointed out that various types of crimes are on the rise in society, with drugs being the root cause of many of these criminal activities. The minister underscored the urgency of launching a nationwide campaign against drugs, which should be extended to the school level to prevent future generational impacts.
Home Minister Lekhak expressed his vision of building a drug-free society and instructed the police to expand the campaign nationwide. He urged everyone, including all levels of government, to advance this initiative as a unified campaign. Highlighting the correlation between substance abuse and societal issues, Lekhak remarked, “Drugs and alcohol are the factors behind the increase in crime, chaos, and disorder in society, so it is necessary to control drugs to control many crimes in society.”
