NA Approves Government’s Policies and Programmes for Fiscal Year 2025-26

Kathmandu: Today’s meeting of the National Assembly (NA) has passed the government’s policies and programmes for the upcoming financial year by a majority. The NA Chair, Narayan Prasad Dahal, announced that the policies and programmes had been approved in the Assembly.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the amendment proposals brought up by lawmakers on various points of the policies and programmes document presented by the government in the Assembly were rejected by a majority. Earlier, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli addressed questions raised regarding the government’s policies and programmes. He stated that these were designed to promote good governance and accelerate the pace of development.

“The need to preserve and promote national interests while maintaining the country’s sovereignty, independence, and autonomy has been incorporated into the policies and programmes,” Prime Minister Oli remarked. He also expressed concern over the misuse of social media to advance anarchy in society as a political act and emphasized the need to be aware of attacks on the system.

The Prime Minister underscored the importance of vigilance against elements rejecting democracy and opposing the system in the name of advocating for the old system, which could cause damage to public and people’s property. He assured that suggestions made during discussions on the policies and programmes would be included in the upcoming budget.

Prime Minister Oli further clarified that the constitution would be amended based on a consensus of everyone’s feelings. He also mentioned that education would be made accessible and useful for life, the current education system would be modernized and made scientific, and robust and balanced neighborhood and international relations would be established.

In addition to the policies and programmes, the NA meeting passed a condolence proposal on the death of former minister Pradeep Nepal. The proposal, presented by Chairperson Dahal, was unanimously approved by the meeting.

The National Assembly will next convene at 1.15 pm on May 13.
