Minister Lekhak Assures Public Concerns Will Be Addressed in Law Amendments


Kathmandu: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has stated that the Legislative Committee under the Council of Ministers will ensure that public concerns are taken into account while amending laws.



According to National News Agency Nepal, the Minister made this announcement during a media briefing after a meeting of the Bill Committee under the Council of Ministers at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers at Singha Durbar. Minister Lekhak emphasized the need for further discussions and amendments concerning provisions related to polygamy, the legal age of marriage, advanced bail, and penalties such as imprisonment and fines.



He revealed that a sub-committee has been established within the Committee to address these issues. During today’s meeting, amendments were proposed for five bills related to the Criminal Code, Criminal Procedure Code, Civil Code, Civil Procedure Code, and the law concerning the determination of jail sentencing.



The sub-committee formed in today’s meeting will consult with respective ministries and relevant bodies to resolve these matters. The Committee, with assistance from the Committee secretary, will coordinate with the Ministry of Law to address these issues comprehensively.



Minister Lekhak called the meeting to deliberate on the proposed law that aims to amend the National Criminal Code Act, 2074, which includes provisions to legalize polygamy under specific circumstances, among other changes.
