Dhangadhi: Family members of Bharat Chaudhary, 36, from Dhangadhi sub-metropolitan city-4, have agreed to receive his body following a deadly clash between inmates at Kailali jail. The decision came after assurances from the Chief District Officer to address the family’s demands.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the family members were initially reluctant to accept Chaudhary’s body, demanding action against those responsible and adequate compensation. Administrative officer Shiva Raj Joshi confirmed that the Chief District Officer committed to discussing the family’s request for free education for Chaudhary’s children with the relevant authorities.
The Sudurpaschim province government has pledged to provide Rs 500,000 to Chaudhary’s family. Chaudhary succumbed to his injuries sustained during Friday evening’s clash while receiving treatment. Meanwhile, 45 other inmates injured in the incident are being treated at Seti Provincial Hospital.
Among the injured, Karna Salami Magar and Ayush Bhatta are receiving medical care in Kathmandu due to the severity of their conditions. Kalpes Bista, initially treated in Dhangadhi, has also been transferred to Kathmandu for further treatment, as informed by Jalandar Bhusal of the prison section.
An investigation into the incident is underway, led by a committee formed under Assistant Chief District Officer, Kiran Joshi.
