IT Linking Dreams to Opportunities: Minister Gurung

Lalitpur: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has said the information technology (IT) is linking dreams to opportunities and building a digital movement of innovation, leadership and collaboration. “Today, thousands of Nepali youths are virtually connected from the remote valleys of Jumla to the global innovation hubs of Silicon Valley, and beyond. This is a proof that technology has no boundaries,” he said, asserting that it is the reflection of the vision uniting 10 million Nepali youths from home country to the diaspora.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Gurung addressed the ‘International IT Youth Conference’ organized by the National Youth Association in Lalitpur on Sunday. He emphasized that the conference is more than just a meeting; it marks the launch of a global digital youth movement aimed at reshaping the future of technology and the destiny of Nepal. The event was organized under the theme, ‘Connecting Nepali Youths Globally, For Connecting Nepal Globally’, providing a platform to discuss Nepal’s IT-related policies, laws, and frameworks.

The Minister urged stakeholders to conduct a SWOT analysis of Nepal’s digital ecosystem to strengthen advantages and address challenges. He highlighted the necessity of exploring careers, entrepreneurship, and global investment opportunities for youths while learning from global best practices and success stories. Minister Gurung also underscored the importance of building bridges between policy, practice, and innovation across borders.

He stated that the theme ‘Nepalese in global IT: Possibilities and collaborations’ reflects Nepal’s ambition to not just participate but contribute to the global digital revolution. The government, through the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, is committed to transforming inspiration into innovation, focusing on areas like Digital Nepal Framework 2.0, policy acceleration, infrastructure, human resources, connectivity, digital governance, and cybersecurity.

Minister Gurung also mentioned initiatives such as the 5G rollout, data centers, and satellite projects to ensure nationwide access to advanced digital services. He emphasized the need for applying AI, blockchain, and emerging technologies in governance, education, and entrepreneurship. The Minister envisioned a future where technology uplifts every citizen, from smart schools in villages to AI innovation hubs in global cities, and digital literacy campaigns to international investment partnerships.

Regarding Nepal’s Global Digital Diplomacy, the Minister highlighted Nepal’s advocacy for inclusive digital transformation at international platforms like WSIS+20. Nepal is a member of a negotiation bloc within the Group-G77, advocating for the priorities of its 134 member states. He also noted Nepal’s participation in the World AI Conference in Shanghai, where the country advocated for AI that leaves no one behind.

Minister Gurung concluded by stressing the importance of togetherness for connection, contribution, and co-creation in Nepal’s digital journey.
